Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade

Symptom

After upgrading to Windows 10, you may have symptoms below for Dolby Home Theater:
  • cannot be launched
  • certain features became unworkable
  • the equalizer does not move
  • Dolby Digital Plus feature does not work
  • Missing driver message

Affected Configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:
  • Lenovo, Idea laptops and ThinkPad

Operating System

  • Microsoft Windows 10

Solution

Step 1: Make sure your machine is supported Windows 10

Please check Lenovo Supported System List for Windows 10 Upgrade to see whether your machine is supported with Windows 10.
Note: If your machine is listed for Windows 10 upgrade, you may proceed with uninstall and reinstall the audio driver to resolve the issue. For machine is not listed, drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10.

Step 2: Uninstall and reinstall the audio driver

1. Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
2. Navigate to Sound, video and game controllers, right click on Realtek High Definition Audio or Conexant SmartAudio or IDT High Definition Audio and choose Uninstall.
 3. Go to Start button, type Control Panel in the search box, and then click Programs and Features. On the list of apps, uninstall anything that relates to the Realtek/Conexant/IDT & Dolby then reboot.
4. After the reboot, go to the Lenovo Support site at http://support.lenovo.com to download new audio driver.
Note: Go to Lenovo Support Site and select your product first before proceed to download the driver.
For more information, please check on How To Navigate And Download Lenovo Softwares Or Drivers from Support Site
Users may try to uninstall and reinstall the audio driver and proceed to step 3 if the issue is still unresolved.

Step 3: Change bitrate in Playback devices

1. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar located at the bottom right of the screen and select Playback Devices.
2. Select the current playback device in use. Double-click on it to open its properties window.
3. Click on Advanced tab.
4. Choose lower or higher bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz – it depends on the device).

DOLBY WINDOWS 10

Dolby Home Theater/Dolby Digital Plus not working how to fix windows 10

DDP is not DHT, dolby provides a separate software for each and thats why it does not look the same.
I read on the net that DDP was not as good as DHT, but I don't know...

Anyway I´m on a V3-571G and I have had these problems before with a clean install of 8.1 and again this week with the upgrade to W10. Let me tell you what worked for me but before we begin just let me say that Dolby Home Theater has always given me problems and will sometimes just turn off and other times the icon in the taskbar would go away or just not respond. I´m hoping it's more consistant on W10 though I dont see why it would be.

The only driver that ever worked properly with Dolby was the driver for windows 8 (not 8.1). the new driver on the Acer site for winodws 10 did not work either. So the one I´m using and I´m listening music to with DHT while writing this is: Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.6878_W8x64_A

To get dolby to work:

1. Uninstall the current driver, and any software related to it (the dolby software)

2. restart

3. Install the driver for windows 8 (in my case it never installs dolby automatically, I´ll explain how to do it manually below)

4. Restart twice (yes, I always had to restart twice after the install otherwise manually installing dolby would not work and I got an error when trying to run the install)

5. In the driver folders you downloaded and unzipped go to the folder "PCEE4" and run "DolbyHomeTheater.msi"

6.If you dont get the "Install PCEE" error, restart and you should be able to enjoy dolby (when its not acting up). If you get the error then you may have not followed the instructions properly. Go back to step 1

Good luck guys

Dolby Home Theater v4 Benefits

  • Authentic Dolby Surround Sound
Dolby® Home Theater® v4 converts your music and other two-channel (stereo) entertainment into 5.1-channel surround sound, and 5.1-channel entertainment like movies into 7.1-channel sound.
  • Simplified Home Theater Connections
The Dolby Digital Out feature in Dolby Home Theater v4 makes it easy for you to connect your PC to a home theater system.
  • Consistent Volume Levels
The Volume Leveler feature in Dolby Home Theater v4 locks in your preferred volume level for more consistent listening.
  • Increased Dialogue Clarity
Dialogue Enhancer improves the clarity of speech in your entertainment, so you can follow every word.
  • Distortion-Free Performance
Dolby Home Theater v4 optimizes audio performance for your specific PC model and lets you turn up the volume without distorting the sound.
  • Total Audio Control
A ten-band graphic equalizer in Dolby Home Theater v4 provides you with complete control over your PC's audio profile.

    A Powerful Multimedia Machine

You watch movies and TV shows on your PC. You use it to stream music. It's your game console and your videoconferencing center. Yet your PC has one major flaw, and that's its sound—tinny and weak at lower volumes, buzzy and rattling when you crank it up. Dolby Home Theater v4 solves the problem of PC audio performance with a suite of technologies that finally make your PC sound like the powerful multimedia machine that it is.
Dolby pioneered high-quality audio first in the recording studio and at the movies and then in the living room. Dolby Home Theater v4 benefits from decades of experience in areas like noise reduction, speaker optimization, and surround sound. It's a complete solution and improves audio performance whether you choose to listen through your PC's built-in speakers, your favorite pair of headphones, or by connecting your PC to a home theater system.

    The Challenge of PC Audio

Understanding how Dolby Home Theater v4 works requires understanding the problems inherent in PC audio. These originate in both the quality of the source material and the playback process.
    Typical problems with sources include:
  • Dull sound and unintelligible dialogue on user-generated content
  • Wildly varying volume levels from one source to the next
  • Content not produced in surround sound
The small speakers and underpowered amplifiers required to fit into the physical design of PCs create other problems. These include:
  • Irregular frequency response with no highs or low
    • Unnatural, colored sound
    • Volume levels that are typically not loud enough
    • Distortion and annoying mechanical vibrations when sound is turned up

The Dolby Home Theater v4 Solution

Designed into a PC, Dolby Home Theater v4 first applies processing that fixes any problems with the source material. It then fixes playback issues by compensating for mechanical constraints of the PC itself.
Because Dolby engineers custom-tune each PC model that includes Dolby Home Theater v4, the audio processing ensures that you enjoy optimal sound for the specific combination of speakers and amplifier in your PC.
    Dolby Home Theater v4 technologies:
  • Use our latest and most advanced algorithms
  • Draw on our extensive research into how people perceive sound
  • Match human audio perception
  • Are built on a common processing framework
  • Work together intelligently
